apprehend a ferry and boat it to Cyprus. stop there for a few days, sneak over to the Turkish half illegally (just for the kicks). Hang there for a bit. And then at your leisure take the ferry to Mersin.
Another option is to do it by road through Lebanon or Syrıa.
Either that or you could be a boring wimp and fly

I went from Syria to Turkey. We left from Latakia to Mersin and it took 9 hours by bus.

i would suggest swimming. make sure to pick up a good body suit. i hear the temperatire at around 33 degreee north is pretty cold. also make sure in cyprus that you insult the greek part because its fun and the turkish side is cheaper anyways. keep me posted i might be in turkey who knows;)
