Conflict of Interest?

I'd like to here Alf's opinion on this one. This is well beyond a right-left issue. Getting Gonzales out of the investigation is a no brainer.

I guess I am a little confused, why is it a no brainer? Because the President has met with the guy in the past, or because he raised money for the campaign?

This is the Attorney General of the United States. Based on the article, it appears he has already assigned it to proper justice officials. So what are you looking for? Should he just step down as AG for a while? Or should we assign a special prosecutor EVERY time someone who has ever met wiht the President, or has ever donated money to the President is investigated?

So here's my real beef. First, to step aside, it would be because there is a real conflict of interest between the AG and the person under investigation. There is no such conflict. Have they ever even met?

Second, he's a smart man, and he is a man of sound character. Although you don't like him, based on the fact that he is the highest prosecutor in the country, give him the benefit of the doubt that he will act responsibly.

And finally, this is obviously a partisan attack, and Williams, you took the bait. here's how it plays out...AG steps aside for the investigation, he is admitting that the Justice Department feels that the President should fall under the investigation, a claim that is so far being rejected by the Administration. This gets the heat off the Democrats. That's the only reason people are calling for him to recuse himself.

Thanks.
The fact that the president is under investigation plays only a small part in why I think he should step aside. The Pres is only one of a multitude of people being investigated, of which it is highly likely our AG has ties. Based on that, I think there is a conflict of interest, because of that association the AG holds with those under investigation. He should not step down as AG, but should do his duty and ensure an independent investigation, which I believe means taking himself out of it.
Our administration does not inspire trust, and yes, maybe we should assign special prosecutors every time until that trust is back.
