Turns out Al Gore actually isn't so stiff and unapproachable. They made a movie/documentary about his global warming presentation. Trailer is here. I don't go to theaters much, but maybe for this one..

There is a book out right now about how consultants have ruined American politics. One of the musings is that Gore never once spoke of the environment during the campaign, and everyone thought he was so square he had to walk around the block just to get out of bed. Imagine if he'd said, Screw You to his consultants and attacked Bush on an environmental front.
You should read it.
He actually launched a pretty comprehensive environmental policy in 2000 in Philly. The press had decided a certain angle that he's stiff and boring and keep potraying him as such.
